Brooklands Gardens
Half way along Brooklands right next to the resources center is
Brooklands Gardens, once the hub of both Brooklands and Grasslands.
Even today though a lot can be seen going on, it is the estates collection
of shops. |

The Mermaid Inn
Once busy every night famous for it's homemade wines, the
Mermaid stands empty, fenced off to keep children out of the derelict
site.

The social Club
Just opposite the Mermaid, a building of many owners and tenants
the club has been known as Brooklands Sandys and the Londoners
in its time. This used to be busy all summer with visitors walking
from Tower camp to join locals in a drink, dance and game of darts.
Over the last few years though it has been more closed than open,
but once again it has opened its doors. The building also holds
the offices of the J.S.F.A.

Another empty building, this one was an arcade, but it's been
shut as long as I can remember. |

The Guinness Trust Office.
This little building, now the Guinness Trust Office
has been the community Center, before that was a general store.
Now days it houses some of the new Surestart team

The Dolphin Cafe
Despite the rugged outside the cafe is a thriving
business, this summer the tables were packed with people drinking
coffee and tea, or choosing food from the menu.

to short sell by dates you'll find allsorts here. You'll also find

Casino
All boarded up and empty, this was once an arcade
come shop.

On the corner
The handy stores or at least that's what it used to be. The
shop has now closed for the summer. This year it was selling beach
toys and ice cream. For many years after the renovation it was Pam
and Dave's handy stores. Then it had several owners all selling
a variety of foods and grocery's.

A view
of the complete street, which leads down to the Guinness
Trust estate. Since the estate has been built there has been a 20mph
speed limit enforced.

Behind the club
there is this large expanse of baron land, perhaps one day
some use will be made of it. A picnic area perhaps? A garden for
the children? Who knows.
